We’ve been following the progress of Terrafugia, the Massachusetts-based creator of several (prototype) flying cars for a while now. The company has been putting out quality work over the years, and has alot of people talking about their recent announcement for the future of personal transportation”: The TF-X plug-in flying car.
Terrafugia’s previous model the ‘Transition’, 
was the company’s most famous creation. It was more of a drivable plane than a flying car and is just about the closest thing we’ve gotten to a realistic flying car so far. The Transition did get past the prototype stage, but Terrafugia has chosen to steamroll into another project and show off what they think will be the Flying car for the masses: The TF-X.
The TF-X would be a hybrid plug-in electric vehicle, capable of vertical takeoffs like a helicopter, but able to adjust its propellers from an upright position to a horizontal position so it can fly like a plane. The vehicle can easily perform automatic takeoffs and landings, and reach speeds of 200mph with a range of 500 miles. The TF-X will have an auto pilot function that will allow routes to destinations to be programmed, much like a real plane. It also will have parachutes, and other features to ensure safe operation.Terrafugia has already received FAA approval, and promises the TF-X will be available by mid 2020.
