Dubai Police Introduce Flying Hover Bikes To Patrol Abu-Dhabi

The Dubai Police force, world renown for its Lamborghini patrol cars, self-driving robots, and ‘non-lethal’ police force tactics,  has decided to take to their 21st century approach to law enforcement to the skies (literally,) in what can only be described as a out-of-this-world awesomeness!

Last week the Dubai Police force unveiled  a flying hover bike to patrol the skies of Abu-Dhabi. The flying vehicle, called the ‘Scorpion,’ designed by Russian technology company Hoversurf, relies on four 300HP independent electric propellers to stay airborne. Capable of speeds up to 40 mph, and a travel time of 25 minutes, the single-seat Scorpion can carry up to 600 lbs, and can also operate autonomously in case of emergency.

 

After making its appearance at several tech showcases earlier this year, the Dubai Police dept. decided to add the Scorpion  to its cutting-edge fleet of vehicles which coincides with Dubai’s “smart city” plans.
According to Hoversurf CEO Alexander Atamanov’s  Facebook page , the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Dubai Police force,  and has been invited to open mass production of the vehicle in the Dubai starting later this year.

 

If that wasn’t cool enough, at the Dubai’s Gitex Technology show in December, the Scorpion was showcased alongside an incredible looking  electric motorbike concept by Japanese firm Mikasa. The bike which looks like something out of ‘Akira’ or ‘Tron’ utilizes a low center of gravity for stability, and  boasts a top speed of 134 mph.
