Japanese Company Makes Real-Life Walking Mecha for Kids, Ridiculously Awesome!

A Japanese company has produced a robotic mecha suit for kids, and yes, it is exactly as awesome as it sounds.

The Kid’s Walker Cyclops is bright green, and has a cockpit where one lucky guy or gal can sit inside and drive the robot. One arm has a claw (for smiting enemies), the other has a drill (also for smiting enemies, and possibly for mineral extraction).

It’s about 6’9″ tall, 3’6″ wide, weighs a cool 750 pounds, and runs off rechargeable batteries. Its legs don’t actually walk, unfortunately, but instead sort of glide on wheels that make it look like it’s shuffling along. Nonetheless it’s still very impressive as far as ludicrously over-the-top toys go.

As you may expect, it doesn’t come cheap. Manufacturers Sakakibara Machinery Works are selling it for nearly ¥2m (about $20,500), according to Gizmodo Japan, but if you can’t quite stretch that far (we are currently mulling the ethics of a Kickstarter for that very reason) it is available to rent. Which makes sense — it is really the perfect extra to make that wedding, funeral or bar mitzvah really memorable.

If you wish to be young again to have a turn in the robot for yourself, don’t fret — the Kid’s Walker Cyclops is actually a streamlined, less dangerous version of Sakakibara’s already-available Landwalker. It doesn’t have arms, but it does look like something straight out of science fiction.

While much more expensive, at ¥37,800,000 (about $387,500), it has actual guns in place of the robot arms of the kid’s version. Admittedly, the guns fire “air cushion balls” instead of bullets, but it’s still a whole metric ton and 11 feet of robot that you can sit inside and shoot people with.

And if that doesn’t satisfy you, Sakakibara’s website offers boxing robots that can actually fight each other.
